Just changed my reservation to LaQuinta where it seems most of the group will be. They now have only 3 rooms left for that time as 6:32 p.m., on 4/30/08

OK...I know the Thackerville nightlife will be going strong on Thursday night, but is anyone else going to be in Dallas on Saturday? My wife and I are considering Six Flags or a Rangers game.

    Won a Hot Seat Entry

This weekend I won a hot seat entry for the June 13 tournament. Other than playing in some fun (free play) tournaments, I've never played in a blackjack tournament. What are some good websites to read up on how to play. I play regular blackjack okay. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

This is the best website for tournament blackjack - so you are at the right site. Recommendation, for a new player, read Wong's Casino Tournament Strategies for some basics on playing bj tournaments, then read Ken Smith's ebook to get more advanced info - that's about the best prep you can get. Ken's store has both books available.

Left Nut is the Big Winner,Congratulations

Congratulations to Left Nut for taking the $50,000 first place prize money in the tournament played last Friday, May 9.
This was a great tournament with about 200 entries. The quality of players must have improved significantly from what has been previously posted here. There were a lot of experienced players and a small number of plopies. Many good players went out in the early rounds. There were five rounds before the final table. Everything was played in one day, starting promptly at 2:00 and the final table finished about 10:00. The filming of the final table started at 8:30 but the filming of it caused things to move very slowly.
This was the third monthly play with June & July yet to be played, with the final table (except for one person) from each month to return for the finals in August where the winner will receive $1,000,000 cash.
I wondered how the casino can pay such great EV with such small entry fees, $550 but entry chips were selling for $300. I discovered that Oklahoma law prohibits the casino from retaining any winnings from the table games, Their only revenue is the ante that is required to play each hand. (For BJ the ante is 50 cents for bet up to $100, and $1 ante for bets over $100.) So the casino is required to return the table winnings to the customers, & that is done through the big EV for the BJ & Poker tournaments.
What a deal, You will probably never find a better tournament.:)

    My pleasure Leftnut...

I have not been in great financal shape due to some health and personal issues. However I decided to back four players this last week (just had a hunch).

Glad I did, leftnut came through in the best possible way for me. I was thrilled that the win was VERY helpful to both Leftnut and I.

I told all four players up front that it was a better deal if they could just pay themselves, however if money was to tight I'd back them since the overlay is so great.

Over the years I have been sponsored and or back and know how nice it is when someone offers to do so when money is tight. I was thrilled that Leftnut had success and now wanting to keep playing tournaments.

On another note, I have had around 10 players asking me to back them for the up coming June event...lol. Funny thing is if I can get the chips I'd be glad to do so, but no guarantees.

    Question:

Will the WindStar allow the final final table in August to be split instead of played out?

It seems to me that with the TV filming it would be anti-climatic if the players decided to split the pot rather than play the final table.

    Played out

Deals can be made, however all play will be carried out for the filming.

    Splitting "The Split"

I don't know if they will allow the 28 players to split the pot or not. Obviously all 28 players would have to agree to that. What I can tell you is, it will never happen. Since I am one of the 28 finalists, I would never agree to such a stupid idea. Case at hand: I am guaranteed to win 10,000 for 28th place. If I split the pot, I only win an extra $61,428 and blow a chance at possibly winning more. With the number of players that advance from each round, the odds are in the favor of any player that knows anything about blackjack tournaments to be able to advance.

    round 1 - 3 out of 7
    round 2 - 3 out of 6
    Final table

Out of three months worth of tournaments, there have only been 1 player each month (to the best of my knowledge) that knew anything about bj tournaments. Hell, one of the guys last month had never even played bj in his life.

Splitting the pot would be the act of a fool!

I think Toolman was talking about the final table of 6 players chopping the pot. ;)

Yes, that's what I meant. A little further clarification. I know "side" deals can always be made to split any winnings between the players involved in such a split. But that involves a certain amount of trust. I was asking if a splitting agreement would be recognized by WinStar and WinStar would pay the players in accordance with the agreement made by all players. Or would WinStar simply not recognize any splitting agreement.

In many tournaments, this subject is covered in the rules. Can anyone look up the rules and post the results of their research?
