    Regular tournaments or WSOB?

Saberjack gave you correct information for their regular blackjack tournaments, but if you are inquiring about getting into the WSOB than you need to win at one of the satellite qualifiers around the country.

I can only assume that was the tournaments you were asking about since you posted in the WSOB section.

Was replying to juwanhurd's question but you may be right TX--maybe he's referring to a WSOB qualifier and not just the gen'l tourneys? Anyway--juwanhurd can ask again or clarify...

    Homo Sapien?

Paul Haas' boyfriend has an appalling command of the English language and his grammar and punctuation is shocking. Are people who aren't able to write joined-up allowed to post on this forum? Isn't there some sort of exam they need to sit first? And what's with all the shouting? I suspect he is a very short man which is probably ideal for Paul as it gives him somewhere to put his beer.

And can we be clear. Has Miss Haas made it to the finals of WSOB 2007 or was this tournament in fact just a qualifier for a qualifier for the WSOB? Please enlighten me.

    Cheers

    Just a qualifier

The latter. He made it to the finals at the Mystic Lake WSOB qualifier. If he wins the "final" there, he will be at the actual WSOB 2007.

Reachy, is this quiet enough for you? ;) If not, I can make it a softer color. Don't want to hurt your ear drums, you know. :p

    Sshhhhhh!

Thank you toolman! My hearing is actually pretty bad mainly due to spending too much of my youth leaning up against massive bass bins in dodgy nightclubs!

When Paul, or anybody for that matter, talks about beating 300 other players it strikes me that this somewhat overstates the point. From what I can gather from the post and what I remember about the previous threads relating to Paul Haas' previous win (and maybe you can clear this up for me) he's only actually beaten about 20 other people. I was thinking about this as I played my umpteenth qualifier at bet21 the other day. Even though it said that nearly 900 players had registered I only have to beat 36 of them to win. And in fact that number is fairly constant across a whole range of MTT sizes, possibly from 400-500 upwards (I'm guessing on those numbers). Actually I had to beat less players than that to win because most rounds were 2 advance and 1 was 3 advance. In that case I only had to beat 25 players to win outright. This Thursday, in the bet21 TV MTT I only need to beat 19 players to get to LA. See you at Barona.....

    Cheers

It doesn't matter the number of players in the tournament, you don't play against all of them unless it is an accumulation format. As you pointed out in elimination you actually only play against a very small amount of the field.

    Reachy, Don't sell yourself short.

You have to consider that in progessing rounds you're playing against players that have beaten players, and later players that have beaten players that have beaten players.

Things are not always cut and dry

    Reachy,

This is a little hard to give an exact answer. To help you analyze the situation, I have reproduced below the advancing rules at Mystic Lake as presented in the CALENDAR:
    Qualifying Round - 5:30 to 7:30. 7 per table, 14 hands.
Maximum of 40 Table Winners and five top money winners advance to semi final round.

    Semi-Final Round - 8:30.
Winners from Qualifying round + a minimum of 3 Wild Card winners. Non winners in this round receive $100 in action chips.

    Final Round - 9:30.
7 winners from Semi-Final round. All final table participants qualify for the finale on Decemer
Now whatever you conclude, THE ASSASSINS BROTHER conveniently left out several important points:
    1) "All final table participants qualify for the finale on Decemer". So we don't know if THE ASSASSIN was first or last or somewhere in between at the "final table". I suspect he was not first, otherwise there would have been so much bragging that THE ASSASSINS BROTHER would still be typing.
    2) In the first round, was he:
    A) a table winner?
    B) one of the "top 5 money advancers" (this is calculated with the table winners removed)?
    C) a second round WILD CARD winner?

Hope this helps you figure thing out. I want to hear your conclusions. :)

Hey Reachy! Hey Reachy! You move so tricky!

In addition to a remedial English Teacher for the boys, giving all other Minnesotans a bad name(maybe they're really the Geico Cavemen, cause I can't place where they could really have come from)........Someone(who really cares) should get them a podiatrist and an oral surgeon.

Amongst Paul, The Assasin, Paul's brother, Paul's roommate, Paul's second and third cousins and whomever else posts for PAUL, The Assasin, there's so many feet in so many mouths it's looking like a made for TV game of twisted Twister.

The required physicians will have to work overtime to get Paul, The Asssasin, ready for the WSOB.

Oh, but, he is an honorable man, only with a lot of Sound and Fury signifying nothing, cause, with what he won last year, he could have taken that Macho Man Act to Aruba and St. Kit's and still played HD heads up in HD's challenge.

Because he is an honorable man, he opted to avoid at least three major challenges to back up his bravado and chose instead to buy a BRAND NEW Pick-Up Truck and some snow suits and snowmobiles and support a roommate or two.

    Soft spot

Bloody hell! That's a first. Normally you plead with me to cease and desist ;) . I think I'm starting to grow on you Mr T. Man1 :D .

As much as it amuses me to watch Paul Haas and his troop drag their virtual knuckles along the BJT.com forum floor as they enter the room, this is not specifically directed at him. Most of my TBJ play time has been spent playing S&Gs and so I wasn't very familiar with multi-level format tournaments. Of course that has all changed now as I seem to have spent innumerable hours playing these bloody qualifiers at bet21.com and playubt.com. Now I'm an expert ;) . Not. Anyway, as I already said, what I came to realise is that there is very little discernible difference between a tournament that has 1000 entrants and one that has 300. They are all 5 levels and have the same or very similar structures in terms of how many advance from a table. So with that in mind, if people are actually paying to enter these tourneys I'd want as many as possible to enter, swelling the prize pool without making it that much more difficult to advance/get in the money.

To your question T-Man. Looking at the information on the Mystic Lake Tournament that you kindly posted I'd say that to advance to the next tournament the best way to do it is to win your tables (D'oh!) which means you have to beat 12 other players. As for the 5 highest stacked losers also advancing, I'm not sure how that works. Is it feasible to adopt a strategy to advance that way? Would you know what the other high BR losers have got? Would you decimate your stack in an attempt do win the table or bet low on the last hand to preserve BR and advance as a loser?

    Cheers

    Get lucky

In this situation, your priority is to win the table. If you can't do that, being BR2 with a high chip count has value. In reality, the players among the " highest stacked losers" often come from 1 or 2 tables. These are usually the hottest tables during the tournament and everyone is betting big. Is it a lot of luck? You betcha!!!

This was a qualifier to get into the Mystic Lake finals on December 5th. The winner of that tournament gets entry into WSOB 07

Don't know about this year, but last year that's how The Assassin got to the second round table. He didn't win the first round table, he qualified by being one of the top 5 non winning money winners. In fact as I understand it, 4 of the 5 came from his table.

    Level of competition

What's the level of skill at these sorts of tourneys? A few good players and the rest?

I still think that WSOB should be run along the lines of a Champions League. Split the country into several area divisons, run a series of qualifying tournamnmets in each area and rank players based on their performance in these. At the end of the season send the top 10 players or so from each division to the grand final which would comprise a series of tournies, again ranked with the top 6 players competing at a final table for the overall title WSOB champion. Seems to me to be a very vigorous way of determining the best.

    Cheers
