    Friday night on GSN

Check www.gsn.com to see when it is listed in your area. I believe Ken said it would repeat Friday night. More than likely it will also repeat more often than that, so if you set your VCR or TIVO you can watch it when you want.

I didn't watch this episode till last night. So couldn't comment much before now.

I though Paul "The Assasin" Haas was loud and obnoxious. But, I also think that Kenny E got him going to start with, probably in an attempt to mess with his game. Unfortunately I don't think Paul is the brightest bulb in the pack so it got him worked up but didn't affect his game.

Even with some questionable bets, the way Paul won proved to me what I'm been thinking for a while. You can make the smartest bet in the world but in the end it all comes down to luck and the cards. It certainly wasn't skill when Paul was all-in early in the match and got an 11 which he hit and got a 10 for 21. At least I think it was the All-in hand when he did that. Wasn't a whole lot of skill on the last hand either, other than having to know he needed to bet the 50K and DD.

In the end, I'm glad Paul won. That makes me feel better having lost to him with the draw of the cards. Also would improve the chances of Mystic Lake having a qualifying tournament for next year, if it's up to them.

    Comcast Cable Stinks

First off, I would like to say I enjoyed the first episode. If it weren't for the loud obnoxious kid, I'm not sure I would have enjoyed. He was the life of the show. He made it very exciting to watch, and kept my interest for most of the show.

Now comes my complaint. The day after the show aired, GSN was removed from my standard cable package (I have Comcast Cable). I guess they decided to make GSN a premium channel. This sucks!!!

It's still available if you have the digital cable box, but not for my cheap people like me who have standard cable. I will now wiss two of my favorite shows in High Stakes Poker and the World Series of Blackjack.

I have already called their 1-800 complaint phone number, but I'm afraid that isn't going to do the trick. Looks like I will be tuning into this message board for the rest of the series.

    Screw you Comcast!!!

    Where do you live?

I have Comcast here in Texas and GSN isn't on the basic package either, but on the next level up. The cost is a little more, but about 7 stations on the next level both my wife and I watch a lot of so that plus the bonus of getting GSN is worth it to us.

You should be able to get the next package without getting the cable box, (we don't need one here).

I have been told that after the first show the play starts getting a lot better by several people. I hope you can the next up grade in time for next weeks show. I was told they have a few situations that are worse than when Kenny got cut on his 20. Those hands are the ones you want to watch first hand for the shock value, their just not the same reading about them.

Don't judge Paul if you dont know him!

I am Paul Haas's best friend and roomate and I am not being biased at all. I want to set the record straight about him. This is one human being that is you're best friend or you're worst enemy. He is a great friend and would do anything for any of his friends if they needed his help. Paul earned his spot in the WSOB by beating hundreds of people out at Mystic Lake Casino in Minnesota. I was there for every hand and every match. You cant beat the amount of people he beat out on pure luck. It does take a lot of skill and just because he is a loose cannon that doesn't give a rats a$$ what people think about him doesn't give you the right to judge a man you don't know personally. You can say what you want, several may be jealous that he won and got as far as he did. Remember to think before you speak!

Yeah, but he's still a moron

Look, when it comes to acting like a douchebag on camera, i'm the first person to agree with you. Often there is a split between on-screen presence and real-life personality, something i have been very comfortable with for years. And no one's arguing that acting up for the camera can be a goldmine for two reasons - it creates public demand for that type of notorious character, as well as plays a psychological game with your opponents that can translate into an edge at the tables. and while i applaud your efforts to defend your friend, you seem to be forgetting one very important thing:

    he's a complete & total idiot.

the bottom line is, he just doesn't understand the greater concepts of betting strategy, and no, this is not my opinion: its a mathematical fact. and if YOU knew anything about playing blackjack tournaments on a professional level, you would understand why the majority of his bets were not only uninspired, but downright stupid, showing a complete lack of understanding for the betting odds that are the fundamentals of tournament play. i laughed out loud every time he'd bet 70% of his bankroll, removing all possibility for splits or the ability to make a comeback if he lost the hand, and one of the biggest errors you can make in a tournament. i practically crapped myself when i overheard him at the rules meeting questioning why someone would want to double down on a blackjack (and no, sorry to say, he WASN'T kidding).

The list goes on, but something tells me nothing i could say will convince you that your friend is anything but the best, based on his results beating a large field at his home casino. Truth be told, & any pro will tell you, there's an awful lot of luck in blackjack, and sometimes the biggest idiot catches the right cards and wins the day -- happens all the time. Which is precisely what happened with Paul; no mystery here, folks, it really is an open and shut case. Moron caught cards, had good results, convinces the world he knows what he's doing. But as anyone with any true skill at the game will tell you, this couldn't be farther from the truth.

I tell you this right now: the world will never hear from Paul Haas again. Wanna-be badass attitude and all, the fact is, he really just doesn't know a thing about playing tournament-style blackjack. And if you're gonna step out into the limelight & act the fool, you'd better know what the hell you're doing. Enjoy the 15 minutes, buddy -- its all you've got.

    Haas

He must give a rats a$$ what people think, or else he wouldn't have put you up to making that post.

The fact is, Hollywood is exactly right. If he's going to run his mouth, at least back it up with some semblance of intelligent play.

    you're both morons

i wrote this post myself and Paul has no idea about it until now. I wonder how far you so called pros got in the tourney? Paul has just advised me that he will challenge anyone around that is willing to take a beating from the assasin. Put you're money where you're so called expert mouth is. Paul also advised me that he thought the 2nd episode was so boring he was ready to commit suicide!:flame:

a donkey & his money are soon parted...

Look, don't fuck around about this: you tell Paul that I will play him in a series of heads-up blackjack tournaments any god damn time he wants. Let's say, 5 20-hand matches. Winner takes all. And i'm not talking a couple hundred bucks here -- tell him to scrape up ten grand or more and call me. Should be no big deal, we all know he won at least 25k for his finish last week so unless he's spent it all on crack already, he should be able to pull 10k off just fine. There's nothing i'd enjoy doing more than showing him it takes a lot more than a loud mouth to win blackjack tournaments.

And please, don't waste my time saying 'he accepts your challenge' and then have it turn into just a lot of hot air with no result. If he says yes, I'll be in Atlantic City next week & Vegas the week after for the start of the WSOP, so i fully expect to have the match occur in either of those two cities & by the end of June. Put up or Shut up --

    Missing The Point

First off let me say that I was there during the filming of many of the WSOB 111 shows and by far Paul show was the most entertaining .That's why it was the kick off show. Similar to last years premier show they will always pick the best of the lot and show it first.

I had the pleasure of meeting him during the week of the shows and he really is a nice guy.

With this years format no one should be surprised if some of the players are not playing and making optimum bets and hand playing decision's. That is going to happen when you qualify players with very little playing experience.

Now as far as stepping up and playing Hollywood in a challenge match that most likely will never happen as there have been numerous challenges on this board that included Hollywood vs. Joep ,Hollywood vs. The Douche Bags Hollywood vs.BJFan4 so on and so on and not one of these matches ever came to be.

Paul is Paul and Hollywood you above everyone else should understand what he was trying to accomplish and so far he has been successful.

Look he won the round and 25 K that now is over 1 week old and people are still talking about it I say he has been the HIT of the show and I tip my hat to him WELL DONE Paul if this is what they are looking for you have done a great job.

I guess I started this mess...

Since I was the first to say something I guess I should be the one to have to play Paul, damn the bad luck.

Sorry Hollywood, it wouldn't be fair of me to start the comments and then let you play Paul, I should have to be the one to play him.

Just let me know how much I need to bring and I guess to be fair we can hold the matches at the LV Hilton, home of your win.

Lets set a good format, why not go 21 matches head up, 14 hands per match, alternate starts. First player to 11 win's take the prize pool. I guess we'll use WSOB rules + Power Chip, but without the KO card, only 14 hands anyway. ;)

I am willing to let Les hold the money and over see the tournament.

Now I don't call myself a "Pro", maybe a season tournament player, but I'll take my chances against you.

no joe, i'm not missing the point here. i agreed that he has done well with marketing himself, in fact in the first line of my first post on this subject i said i was the first person who understood this kind of psychological approach to the game. i have no problem with that -- obviously. i'm sure he's a nice guy & stand-up friend in real life, that wasn't my point. my point was in reaction to those on this thread, especially his buddy, who are making the argument that he's such a skillful player or that it was part of some plan to act dumb & loud when really he knew what he was doing.

Give me a break -- did we all just get high and forget some of the most basic tactics in tournament play? did you watch the same game as me, joe? its amazing to me how one week you are critical of the WS3's selection process & how it excluded most of the game's best players -- and then the next you are defending somebody who clearly can't make a bet to save his life. oh but i forgot -- if i'm against something, you're for it, and vice versa. there's the joep1 we all know & love.

as for why the OTHER matches never got off the ground, i don't know, i was ready with my money. why don't you call bjfan up in canada & see what happened there...? i hardly see how belittling my challenge to Paul accomplishes anything except creates another avenue for you to take another swipe at me in a public forum. maybe its about time to bury the hatchet, no? all i wanna do is take 10 grand from some chump who doesn't realize this ain't the kiddie pool, now why you wanna go hatin'? ;)

    nice grammar & movie quotes

looks like the money's already spent, huh? too bad, i woulda liked a piece of it. well i guess joe's right after all -- another match down the tubes, this time due to a deadbeat who already gambled his money away.

yeah sure, kid -- drop a line when you have the cash. you know where to find me. until then, just as i predicted - a lot of hot air & with no skill to back that mouth up of yours, the world won't even remember your name in a couple months... bye bye! :)
