Does anyone really like PLAYUBT.COM?

One at a time, or several at once ...

The number of games you can get through in an hour is a function of how long each game lasts. That's the key point.

You reduce your chances of winning the table somewhat by going all-in on the first hand, but it only takes a minute to either progress to round two, probably as (joint) BR1, or bust out and go straight into round one of another table.

Since an average game probablly takes thirty minutes or more, the vast bulk of your time is spent playing those tables in which you have progressed to round two. It would have to be many, many, many times less likely to win a table by going all-in for that approach not to yield a higher hourly win rate.

Indeed, the only question in my mind is whether just one kamikaze round is optimal, or whether two or three would yield an even higher win rate. (I suspect not, but I haven't tried to systematically work it out.)

I was thinking of trying 2 rounds

I was going to try max betting the 1st 2 rounds tonight as it happens. The way I see it max betting round 1 means you will get to round 2 approximately every other game. With a 2 round max bet, assuming you don't push hand 1 and don't lose a round 2 DD, your chances of getting to $75K are about 20%. That's 1 in every 5 games.

What interests me is what your hourly win/lose rate would be if you used these wildcat strategies on low level S&Gs where the strategies of other players are quite loose, and you played multiple tables. Some quick maths shows that it is likely to be very unprofitable (unsurprisingly). If you get to $75K every 5 games it would cost you $5.50 in a $1+.1 S&G. Even if you won every game you got to $75K in you'd still be down $0.60. In a more conservative "get to 50K" strategy where you would progress in 2 out 5 games, if you only won one of those you'd be in the same boat as above (i.e. $0.60 down) but if you managed to have a 1st and a 2nd you'd make a profit! Of $0.50! I shan't give up my day job!

    Cheers

    I would like to know

How many percentage wise of the PlayUBT.com games go past eight hands. I would guess not very many.

How can you say that when your percentage of winning any given hand is 43%

    Delegate

The art of good management is delegation. I'm an expert!

Ps. Got a few other business ideas and an invention in the pipeline. If they take off I'll be able to delegate even more and with a bigger BR!

    Reachy and London,

I know you guys are number crunchers and what you are thinking about MAY be good for looking at income but from a fellow online player who wants to be a live tourney player let me state my opinion about PLAYUBT.com and the max bet situations

BAD IDEA - DON'T GO THERE

I use PlayUBT as a training tool for my strategies. My goal is to make it past hand 16 on every online game that I do. On playubt.com since it doesn't cost me anything I stick to my guns and see what my BR looks like. If BR1 has 100000 or more and my BR is only 29000 who cares? In live tourney's NO ONE does max bet first hand. All it will do is create false security and develope bad habits.

Now having said that I have adopted something similar in the sit-n-go tables here and it has worked so far - but I need more and I mean many more games to see if it will pan out.

The one thing I've learned when playing against these "pro" players down here is this: Don't panic, take your time and wait for someone to open up a window of opportunity for you. There's no need to "break down" the door. Eventually someone will slip and give you that little opening. The problem is most of the times I never knew that!

    PS. POST NUMBER 400

Actually, you should ask SWOG about max bets on the first hand.

    PS 101 for me!

I'm with you on that! Last night I played regular old solid tournament strategy on playubt. 2 max bettors were gone in the first hand, another on hand 2 (pushed the first hand), 1/2 max gone by hand 3. Three of us made it to hand 8, where I knocked out the other min bet from hand 1. By hand 16, I caught and narrowly passed the only 1/2 max bettor to have survived, but he got the cards and I didn't.

    Dang variance!

OK. No need to shout! In truth, I haven't played any games at PlayUBT since I (finally!) qualified for my shot at St Kitts.

We were discussing the art of maximising how quickly you can earn TECs. This is a completely isolated topic and has nothing to do with any normal strategies. It's not that difficult to remember to play normally when you are elsewhere.

I'm not sure that the free games are the best place to hone your strategies either, since you are up against oddly-behaving opposition. I think the $1 + 0.10 games would be better.
